Maria Ascayo

María Ascayo is a 46-year-old woman, resident in the San Juan de Miraflores district. In 2011, she and her daughters came to the community of La Cumbre in search of housing. Maria has 3 daughters: Josselyn, Elizabeth and Diana, who were her main motivation to start her small business.

Unfortunately, she was laid off during the pandemic, but she had a hobby, the art of knitting, so she took advantage of the opportunity, overcame the difficulties and succeeded. Her business is focused mainly on crochet-style fabrics and all types of knitted fabrics, serving all those who like to buy various wool products. María met Nassf one day like any other, when she met some neighbors in a common pot and was visited by the founder of the network, Lisette Suárez, who kindly interviewed her and other women, asking them if they would like to knit, so she decided to contact them immediately.

This gave her the opportunity to sell her own fabrics, as at that time she was only weaving for herself, and joining Nassf allowed her to earn additional income, for which she has been very grateful ever since. Over time, Maria dreams of having her own knitting workshop, where she can teach more women different wool techniques and, most importantly, show them that progress is still possible despite the difficulties.
