Shirley Izurieta Kametza Wuararontzi

Shirley Kametz currently lives in Ucayali and was born in the province of Atalaya, near the Tambo River, in the region of the great Asháninca nation, descendant of Spanish Basque with a native Asháninca, her parents are also from Atalaya, from a community called Shevoya, where there are farms, it has been used by loggers. Due to this problem, she sought out social production activities and began working with people in the local community to recycle waste such as logs, roots and branches, which inspired her to use recycled materials to make notebook covers.

These are not only simple notebook covers, but they can be customized according to the customer’s taste and can be engraved with names, company logos, photographs for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, etc., as well as different sizes of notebooks and different papers such as dotted, squared, lined and personal (for example, the agenda).

On the other hand, this project was also born from the idea of saving hand weaving, because it is now a forgotten and very old activity, so it was decided to place this fabric on the cover of the trunk, an activity with planting, cotton , as the Asháninka usually do, is very hard, consistent and strong and comes in three natural colors: white, beige and yellow. Additionally, natural dyes from plants, tree roots and even animals are used, and the notebooks are hand-stitched using techniques used in ancient hand-woven books.
